Safe Engineering Closure & Landfill Gas Emissions Management: “The Brooks” Project, New Cairo

Client:

Mashareq Investment

Design and development of a landfill gas emissions management and safe engineering closure system for the former dumpsite underlying The Brooks residential development in New Cairo.

Project Overview

The Brooks project occupies approximately 800,000 m² on a former dumpsite site. ESWMCE developed an IPCC First Order Decay (FOD) model to estimate landfill gas generation through 2075 and established a technical framework for validating gas generation and managing landfill gas emissions prior to residential development.

Our Role

  • Served as Landfill Gas Management Consultant to Mashareq Investment.
  • Developed the IPCC First Order Decay model and estimated landfill gas generation through 2075.
  • Developed the pump test approach for validation of landfill gas generation estimates.
  • Designed the initial and detailed landfill gas collection system.
  • Developed the lining system design to isolate landfill gas and protect the future residential development.
  • Provided construction supervision for implementation of the gas management system.
  • Developed long-term monitoring and maintenance requirements.

Key Impact

  • Established a long-term landfill gas generation assessment through 2075.
  • Provided field-based validation of model results through pump testing.
  • Developed a comprehensive landfill gas collection and management system.
  • Supported safe redevelopment of the former dumpsite for residential use.
  • Established requirements for long-term monitoring and maintenance of landfill gas emissions.
