Technical support for establishing an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework for packaging waste in Egypt, including registry development, international benchmarking, and implementation planning.

Project Overview

The assignment supported the development of the foundational elements required for implementing EPR for packaging waste in Egypt. The work assessed international EPR models and adapted relevant approaches to Egypt’s regulatory and market context, supporting the transition toward a circular economy.

Our Role

  • Served as Local Consultant supporting EPR implementation.
  • Reviewed international EPR models and assessed their applicability to Egypt.
  • Developed tailored requirements for a national producer and packaging registry.
  • Supported the development of EPR implementation strategies and institutional arrangements.
  • Conducted stakeholder mapping and contributed to capacity-building activities.
  • Participated in workshops and multi-stakeholder consultations with government and private-sector stakeholders.
  • Identified data gaps and potential digital tools for EPR monitoring and compliance.
