Development of national technical guidelines for the environmentally sound closure and rehabilitation of municipal solid waste dumpsites and landfills in Egypt, supported by a case study for Al Toob El Ramly Dumpsite.

Project Overview

The project established a national technical framework for the systematic closure and rehabilitation of MSW dumpsites and landfills in Egypt. The guidelines integrated international best practices with Egypt’s regulatory and institutional context, covering site assessment, engineering requirements, environmental protection, risk mitigation, monitoring, and post-closure management.

Our Role

  • Served as Main Consultant for the development of the national closure guidelines.
  • Reviewed international standards and best practices for landfill and dumpsite closure.
  • Assessed Egypt’s regulatory framework and current MSW disposal practices.
  • Developed step-by-step technical procedures for site investigation, closure design, environmental protection, and monitoring.
  • Prepared the Al Toob El Ramly Dumpsite Closure Plan as a practical case study.
  • Developed engineering drawings, stabilization measures, and post-closure management recommendations.
  • Conducted consultations and workshops with relevant government and institutional stakeholders.
