AGRN Compost Facility Technical Visit

As part of the Biowaste EgJo Project, ESWMCE, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, conducted a technical visit to the AGRN mixed-waste composting facility with international experts from Germany, Jordan, and the University of Rostock, alongside students from the Civil Engineering – Utilities and Infrastructure Department.

The visit provided an in-depth overview of AGRN’s composting operations, including feedstock preparation, windrow formation, aeration, moisture management, curing, and final screening. Particular attention was given to the differences between mixed-waste and agricultural feedstocks and their influence on compost quality, processing requirements, nutrient characteristics, and end-use applications.

The technical exchange enabled students and international experts to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience, while discussing operational challenges, environmental performance, resource recovery, and the role of composting in advancing circular economy practices. The visit further strengthened collaboration and knowledge exchange among partners working to promote sustainable biowaste management in Egypt and Jordan.
